How Shares Works
Feeding Laramie Valley distributes over 50,000 pounds of locally grown fresh produce to households each year. This is made possible through the FLV farm and gardens, Grow a Row program, farmers market vendors, and individual produce donations from commercial farms, school and community gardeners. Donations are supplemented with purchases of regional fresh produce.
Each week program participants can pick 4 different types of fruits and vegetables from the available selection to put in their Shares bag. 4-5 servings of produce are provided for each person in the household.
Each bag also comes with a weekly Shares Recipe based on that week's produce.
Shares are given to individuals and families who are challenged by insufficient access to healthy food. Deliveries are available for those with disabilities or other health challenges who unable to pick up their produce in person.
Sign up is simple and there is no cost to join the program.

Why Is Shares Needed?
Albany County has traditionally had one of the highest rates of food insecurity in Wyoming, and Wyoming ranks in the top ten states with food insecurity in the nation. While that rate had been on the decline for the past almost fifteen years, a spike in cost of living sent the rate of food insecurity soaring again in 2024.
Food Insecurity Is on the Rise, Especially in Wyoming
The latest report from the USDA shows that, after over 20 years on the decline, food insecurity rates rose sharply over the past year, affecting children especially.

Food insecurity is about more than just hunger. Concern about where a next meal is coming from affects the ability to learn, job performance, and psychological well-being.
