Thank You, Volunteers

Guess how many hours community volunteers put in on behalf of Feeding Laramie Valley’s programs in 2024? That was the question of the hour as guests at the first annual Feeding Laramie Valley Volunteer Appreciation Event took a gander at the jar full of M&Ms representing their cumulative hours. The answer? 546 hours put in by 185 volunteers (not including Americorps VISTA hours).

Despite our many years in operation, this was FLV’s first time hosting such an event, bringing together volunteers from across our programs who otherwise don’t often get to meet each other. To encourage learning a little more about each other, the evening included a few fun games, including Get-to-Know You BINGO and FLV Jeopardy, and a delicious shared meal catered by Laramie’s own Sweet Melissa’s.

All invitees were honored with a certificate to thank them for their service, and three volunteers received special recognition: Cathy Gunton, who logged the most hours in 2024 by keeping the production spaces at the FLV building watered daily all summer long in addition to helping with special events, Eric Williams as our longest-serving volunteer who started with us at the very first Higher Ground Fair and has since contributed his joy and special touch to pretty much every program, and Chris Lima for going above and beyond and always being up for helping with any project, even on short notice.

The event, held on March 26th at the FLV building, anticipated National Volunteer Month just a little, but we are thankful for the hard work and dedication of our volunteers every day. They are instrumental in helping us with programs from Shares to Composting to our special events, doing everything from weeding and watering at the FLV Farm to packing Shares bags, putting together crafts, and serving pie.
