Albany County, Wyoming has the highest rate of food insecurity in Wyoming at 17.6%, The county’s poverty rate of 26% is also the highest in Wyoming. The Feeding Laramie Valley Mobile Market program is a collaborative effort between Big Hollow Food Co-op and Action Resources International to establish and implement a multi-tiered approach to increase healthy food access in Albany County, Wyoming.
At its core is the renovation and interior building of a mobile healthy-food market, establishment of countywide traveling sales to underserved areas, and the expansion of healthy food access through innovative retail purchase opportunities and incentives.
By implementing the Feeding Laramie Valley Mobile Market this program will address limited food access by lowering barriers in a variety of ways – direct increased geographic access through frequent and regular routes to isolated individuals and families; increased affordability through SNAP incentives and food prescription supplemental fresh produce bags in conjunction with mobile market retail sales; affordable price points through membership discounts and hours of diverse service project alternative currency
